Título: PhD position to study molecular isotopic ratios in the interstellar medium
Centro: Centro de Astrobiología (CAB, CSIC-INTA, Madrid, Spain) and Center for Astrochemical Studies (CAS@MPE, Garching, Germany)
Tipo: Predoctoral
descripción:
We invite applications for a PhD position at the Centro de Astrobiología (CAB, CSIC-INTA, Madrid, Spain, 50% of the time) and at the Center for Astrochemical Studies (CAS@MPE, Garching, Germany, 50% of the time). The deadline for the applications is July 31st (inclusive).
The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Laura Colzi (CAB), Dr. Olli Sipilä (CAS@MPE), and Prof. Dr. Paola Caselli (CAS@MPE) on the Project MIRAME: Measuring Isotopic Ratios Across Multi-scale Environments.
The first part of the PhD will be carried at CAS@MPE (https://www.mpe.mpg.de/CAS), which hosts experimentalists, observers, and theoreticians who investigate together the chemical and physical evolution of the interstellar medium and star-/planet-forming regions, from clouds to disks, with links to exoplanets and our Solar System. After that, the candidate will work at CAB in the astrochemistry/star formation group (https://cab.inta-csic.es/astrochem/). CAB provides a lively and stimulating research environment, covering research topics as diverse as astrophysics, prebiotic chemistry, biochemistry, planetology, and the discovery of biosignatures in planets in our Solar System.
Understanding the chemical processes in molecular clouds that shape molecular isotopic ratios is essential for determining the role of stellar nucleosynthesis in the evolution of the Galaxy. This knowledge is crucial for understanding how key elements of life, such as C and N, formed and evolved within the Milky Way. The candidate’s work will mainly focus on theoretical chemical modelling of molecular isotopic ratios in the interstellar medium, together with the analysis of astronomical data from radio telescopes.
The position will start no later than February 2026, and will last 3 years (with possibility of extensions upon funding availability). The PhD will be conducted in English.
To be eligible the candidate must have a Master’s degree in Physics, Astrophysics, or related field. Experience with programming will be evaluated positively. The candidate should be enrolled in a Spanish PhD program before the beginning of the contract (see https://www.ucm.es/doctorado/doctoradoastrofisica and https://www.uam.es/EscuelaDoctorado/programa-doctorado-astrofisica?language=en_GB).
Applicants should submit a CV, letter of interest, Master’s thesis or summary, and names and contact details of two individuals (who can provide letters of recommendation upon request) to lcolzi@cab.inta-csic.es , osipila@mpe.mpg.de and caselli@mpe.mpg.de. The final selection will be made after top 3 candidates have been interviewed.

Título: Postdoctoral Position in Galaxy Evolution with JWST Data
Centro: Universidade Cidade de São Paulo (UNICID)
Tipo: Postdoctoral
descripción:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position at UNICID to work on galaxy evolution using JWST data from the CEERS, JADES, and NEP surveys. The successful candidate will contribute to a number of interconnected research projects aimed at understanding the mass assembly and chemical enrichment of galaxies across cosmic time. At intermediate redshifts, we will provide a first-order estimate of the fraction of ex-situ stellar components in galaxies by applying spectral fitting techniques to LEGA-C data, searching for deviations in the stellar mass–metallicity relation. These studies will be complemented by proposals for integral field spectroscopy, allowing spatially resolved analysis of stellar metallicity as a tracer of galaxies’ assembly history. At higher redshifts, the focus will be on JWST-CEERS data to extend morphological classification to galaxies up to z∼8, enabling the study of structural features at early cosmic times. In parallel, we will conduct a detailed analysis of stellar population parameters at high redshift, evaluating current model limitations and comparing results from spectral and SED fitting approaches.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a strong background in data analysis, statistics, and galaxy evolution, with demonstrated proficiency in Python programming. Experience with spectral fitting, SED modeling, and large survey datasets will be considered an asset.
Fellowship Details: The position is funded by FAPESP and includes:
- Annual tax-free stipend of R$ 144,000 (Brazilian reais)
- Research grant of R$ 14,400 per year
- Relocation assistance
- Additional funding for travel to conferences
How to Apply: Interested candidates should send the following documents to rrdecarvalho2008@gmail.com or b.barbuy@iag.usp.br by September 30th, 2025:
- Curriculum Vitae
- List of publications
- Brief research proposal (1–2 pages)
We encourage early applications. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Título: Marie Curie Fellowship in AI and Big Data for PLATO mission, in IAA-CSIC and ICE-CSIC
Centro: Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía IAA-CISC, Instituto de Ciencias del Espacio ICA-CSIC
Tipo: Postdoctoral
descripción:
In the framework of ALLIES Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) program, we are glad to offer a Two-Year Fellowship position in:
“Big Data analysis techniques applied to simulated data for the preparation of the space mission PLATO”
What we are looking for:
We are seeking innovative research proposals that explore Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) as a pioneering and breakthrough way to interpret observations by combining theoretical stellar models, stellar population models, and prescriptions for observational biases. The selected PostDoc will join a multidisciplinary research group between the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC https://www.iaa.csic.es/) y el Instituto de Ciencias de Espacio (ICE-CSIC https://www.ice.csic.es/).
Background in knowledge of AI principles, technics and previous works in this area will be taken in consideration.
Our problem:
PLATO is a space mission from the European Space Agency which is aimed to detect and characterize Earth analogs and their hosting stars. The mission will collect a huge amount of data, and there is the strong need to implement the stellar models and theoretical simulations in order to extract the information. The development of Artificial intelligence (AI) systems provide a unique opportunity to exploit both observations and models and push the current limits of our knowledge of stars and planets.
Javier Pascual, J.R. Rodón (IAA-CSIC, Granada, Spain), and Aldo Serenelli (ICE-CSIC, Barcelona, Spain) are joining efforts to implement a promising holistic approach where AI is used to extract the physical information both from observations and stellar models in preparation for the PLATO space mission, which will be launched at the end of 2026.
International collaborations and stages:
The proposal has been developed in collaboration with two international research groups, belonging to centres of excellence in astrophysical research: CAUP-Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (PT, https://www.astro.up.pt/); LESIA Paris Observatory (FR, https://lesia.obspm.fr/).
Short stages in these centres are planned for the ALLIED program postdocs.
